QUINTILIAN'S JUDGEMENT OF AFRANIUS.
- Authors
Welsh, Jarrett T.
- Abstract
The article discusses the judgment of Roman rhetorician Quintilian to the plays of playwright Afranius, who wrote a genre of comedy play called "fabulae togatae." It mentions that the Quintilian judged the plays of Afranius as pederasty, or with themes which are vulgar in nature. It states that the comments of Quintilian on Roman comedy has showed strong influence on scholars, suggesting that Quintilian was not reading the plot of the play.
