- Abstract
General Objective: Describe the experience of breastfeeding in a group of mothers of children under 2 years of age in a kindergarten in Cali. Methodology: A descriptive study was carried out in a series of cases, in 2018, 28 mothers were interviewed who met the inclusion criteria and agreed to participate by signing the informed consent. Sociodemographic variables of pregnancy, exclusive breastfeeding and reasons for abandonment of breastfeeding were studied. Descriptive analysis of the variables was performed. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the School of Health. Site: A kindergarten in the city of Cali. Participants: 28 mothers with children under two years old Main Measurements: Breastfeeding, reasons for abandonment Results: Of the 28 women surveyed, the median age was 23 years, same number of married and free union, the most frequent educational level was high school, most mothers reported unplanned pregnancy and have no knowledge in breastfeeding, to despite having attended the psychoprophylaxis course. Fifteen mothers had exclusive breastfeeding and thirteen abandoned it. Conclusions: Women with exclusive breastfeeding and women with breastfeeding under 6 months have differences in aspects such as age, fewer children, marital status and use of pacifier. The mothers surveyed report that the pregnancy was unwanted and report having little knowledge related to exclusive breastfeeding.
