- Abstract
The article discusses the strengthening of public health policies related to maternal and child health in Brazil, amid advances in social policies and political-economic instabilities. Topics addressed include the constitutional provision on the creation of a Public Health System (SUS), the impact of redemocratization on health rights promotion, and the causes of maternal mortality. The goal for maternal mortality ratio under the Goals for Sustainable Development (ODS) is mentioned.
