- Authors
Walter, Jessica R.; Jungheim, Emily S.
- Abstract
This article discusses the recent advancements in uterus transplant as a treatment for uterine-factor infertility. The study by Testa et al. highlights the potential for patients with dysfunctional or absent uteruses to carry their own biological child. The article draws parallels between the initial skepticism towards in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the current skepticism towards uterus transplant. It emphasizes the need to address concerns regarding cost, morality, and medical necessity, while also acknowledging the potential benefits and advancements in reproductive medicine that these treatments offer. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing infertility as a common disease that causes significant psychological and social morbidity.
