- Abstract
The article analyzes the circulation and reception of the work of Nicolás Maquiavelo in Argentina between 1830 and 1940. It highlights that the circulation of his writings in Spanish was late and that his figure was associated with impious and immoral politics. During the 19th century, Maquiavelo was known but little read in the Río de la Plata, and his name was linked to negative principles without the need to read his texts. Furthermore, it is suggested that the anti-Machiavellianism of the generation of '37 may be indicative of the different rhythms and mediations in the circulation of knowledge.
