- Abstract
In the bustling landscape of contemporary society, neurasthenia has emerged as a pervasive mental health concern, underscoring the necessity for a novel discipline: "Totemic Psychopathology." This article delves into the manifestation of totemism, a time-honored religious custom, within various facets of human psychological consciousness. Our investigation seeks to elucidate the correlation between totemic experiences and psychopathology, thereby contributing fresh insights to this domain. We also probe the potential of employing totemic symbols as therapeutic tools for neurological patients, while concurrently acknowledging the constraints of extant research. Furthermore, we critically assess the perspectives of Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772), a distinguished physiologist and theologian, whose contributions to this field have largely remained unexplored. Our research endeavors to substantiate that totemic rituals extend beyond mere idolatrous worship and sacrifices to curry favor with divine entities. Instead, they can function as a transformative remedy, capable of mitigating the stress experienced by modern neurasthenic patients by fostering positive values and a constructive worldview
