- Title
Tracking Wildlife in Thoreau's Winter Woods: Coyotes and Porcupines; Predators and Their Prey.
- Authors
Andrews, Joseph L. "Joel"
- Abstract
The article provides a description of Estabrook Woods in the wintertime, particularly the animals residing there. Author Henry David Thoreau was fond of visiting the area, which is near Concord, Massachusetts. Many coyote footprints were visible in the snow as was evidence of beavers, which remain in their lodges to avoid the coyotes. The author also finds evidence of otters and marvels how his guide is able to interpret the animals' movements by looking for signs in nature.
