- Abstract
The article tries to analyze how objective tests could be used to help students build up retention powers in chemistry. Four chemistry classes in the Newton, Iowa, Junior-Senior High School during 1932-1933 were observed for the investigation. Four methods were designed during the observance period. In Method I, students were told to avoid wrong answers and select an appropriate answer and write a reason for their choice. In Method II, teacher read the right answers and the students checked their copies on their own. In Method III, the teacher checked the students copy for wrong answers. Under Method IV, the teacher gave brief references for wrong answers to the students. The article tries to evaluate outcome of each method. The article suggests that teaching techniques and examination modes were somewhat responsible for the results.
