- Abstract
An essay is presented that discusses the roles of the court advisers Piers Gaveston and Hugh Spencer, who are portrayed as sirens, in the book "The History of Edward II," by Elizabeth Cary. Topics include the symbolism of sirens in light of purported homosexual relationships between English King Edward II and his court advisers, the relation of sirens to mermaids and seduction, and Cary's warnings in relation to the political situation in England.
