- Title
ÆLFRICS COMMENTS ABOUT THE PASSIO THOMAE.
- Authors
Biggs, Frederick M.
- Abstract
The article focuses on views of English abbot and writer &Aelig;lfrick on the book "The Passio Thomae." There is no doubt that &Aelig;lfrick misrepresents Saint Augustine. His claim in "Excusatio dictantis," that Augustine said the incident of Thomas and the cupbearer was read with great diligence by those who love vengeance is indicative of his misunderstanding. Augustine's point was instead that the Manichees, who disapproved of the Old Testament because of its corporal punishment, would need to acknowledge Thomas' similar action.
