- Abstract
Presents literary criticism of several poems and stories by Sherman Alexie, who belongs to the Spokane/Coeur d'Alene Native American groups, with particular discussion of his juxtaposition of the genocide of Native Americans and the Jewish Holocaust. Alexie's use of Holocaust references in the poem "Custer Speaks," the story "The Trial of Thomas Builds-the-Fire" from "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven" and the poem "Fire as Verb and Noun," among others, are discussed.
