- Abstract
Nurses must perform objective and subjective functions that ensure attention to women while respecting their sexual and reproductive freedom, as well as protecting their health. Thus, the aim was to identify the role of the nurse in promoting sexual and reproductive health for women. For this purpose, a qualitative integrative review study was conducted, considering the period between 2012 and 2023, using the databases: Lilacs, Scielo, PubMed, and the Virtual Health Library, which resulted in the selection of thirteen published studies based on similarity between eligible articles and the increasing order of publication year. Data collection took place between September and October 2023. Additionally, books, laws, and guidelines from the Ministry of Health were also researched. It was evident that women's reproductive and sexual health is a topic that allows for many discussions in the field of health, as its indication in Primary Health Care has the potential and competence to ensure female autonomy or omit their reproductive and sexual rights. The relevance of nurses' role in this field is considered, developing educational actions, providing access to information about family planning and contraceptive methods, and actively involving individuals in primary care services to reduce unwanted and high-risk pregnancies, clandestine abortions, and the number of sexually transmitted infections.
