- Abstract
Objective: To identify the insertion of the theme of drugs in Nursing training. Methods: This is a case study, of a documentary nature, based on the Political Pedagogical Project, menus of curricular components in force and teaching and learning plans of a university in northeastern Brazil. Data production took place from July/2019 to March/2020 and were organized for content analysis. Results: The Political Pedagogical Project and the curricular menus do not explain the theme of drugs; however, the teaching plan of the Mental Health Nursing component includes the use of psychoactive substances and harm reduction in its syllabus. Conclusion: The inclusion of the theme of drugs in Nursing training reveals itself as an urgent and necessary demand in the approach and inclusion in the curricula on the theme in a transversal way, using active methodologies, since it is a phenomenon of great complexity, demanding professional training to carry out effective care actions for people who use drugs, valuing the autonomy of individuals and guaranteeing citizenship.
