- Abstract
The study aim to perform the confirmatory analysis of the Measurement Scale of the Propensity for Entrepreneurship and its Antecedents - EMPEA, proposing two models of relationships between antecedent individual characteristics and the Propensity for Entrepreneurship. The theoretical foundation deals with entrepreneurial propensity and antecedent individual characteristics: innovative behavior, need for achievement, need for autonomy, proactivity, self-efficacy, internal/external locus of control, tolerance/intolerance to ambiguity, and risk propensity/aversion. Quantitative methods were used, through multivariate data analysis, to propose models of how individual characteristics relate to each other and to entrepreneurship propensity. In terms of results the EMPEA contains 56 items, distributed in twelve constructs, eleven of which are individual characteristics considered antecedents and one of the propensity to entrepreneurship itself. In the confirmatory analysis of the measurement model the characteristic need for achievement was excluded for not presenting discriminant validity. The final structural model contains 52 items distributed in 11 constructs. The explanatory power of the direct relations model was 37, 90% (R2 0.379), and two hypotheses were confirmed. The power of explanation of the indirect relations model, with 11 constructs, was 23.20% (R2 0.232), confirming the hypothesized relations. As a practical or managerial contribution, this scale could help higher education institutions in entrepreneurial education strategies, as well as provide subsidies for those who have financial resources (banks, development agencies, etc.) when they are faced with proposals to obtain resources from individuals who intend to become entrepreneurs. As for originality, the results demonstrate originality since the proposed relationships are unprecedented. The present study brings academic and managerial contributions, among them the verification of the relationships of individual characteristics among themselves and their indirect relationship with entrepreneurial propensity.
