- Abstract
The article addresses the vulnerability situation of the LGTBI collective seeking international protection in the city of Melilla. Four realities that contribute to this situation are mentioned, including international protection in the migratory context, the vulnerability of the LGTBI collective in society, the specificity of asylum and the reception system in Melilla, and the vulnerability of the most disadvantaged groups within the asylum and refuge phenomenon. The impact of the pandemic on LGTBI migrants seeking asylum in Melilla is also highlighted. Discrimination and violations in the asylum process and the reception system in Melilla are also mentioned. Although the Spanish Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR), recognizing the right of asylum seekers to free movement throughout the country, the Ministry of the Interior did not immediately comply with the sentence. The transfers of asylum seekers in Melilla only normalized from December onwards, and the LGTBI collective seeking asylum faces security and coexistence problems, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
