- Abstract
In this study, a strain of Ni and Cd resistant bacterium with the ability to produce indole acetic acid (IAA) was isolated from the contaminated soil, the effect of Ni and Cd on its growth and IAA production and its application potential for the remediation of Ni and Cd contaminated soil were also studied. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the isoalted strain was Bacillus safensis, which was named N4. Strain N4 could maintain a high growth rate when the concentration of Ni and Cd in the medium were 800 and 20 mg/L, respectively, and the living cells still maintained a high IAA production capacity in the medium containing high concentration of Ni and Cd. Strain N4 could not only keep its activity, but also improve its resistance to heavy metals after adsorbed on the surface of biochar. Strain N4 could promote the growth of pakchoi in Ni and Cd contaminated soil, reduce the content of available Ni in rhizosphere soil and Ni in shoot of pakchoi, but had no obvious effect on the content of Cd. Strain N4 and biochar had good combined remediation effect on the soil polluted by Ni and Cd, which made the contents of Ni and Cd in the aboveground part of pakchoi reached the national food safety standard. The results provided an important reference basis for remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil by IAA producing bacteria.
