- Abstract
The article presents information on a survey done to assess knowledge, attitudes and beliefs about AIDS and estimates of personal risk, at the University of Zimbabwe. Two hundred and thirty eight students at the University of Zimbabwe, Harare, completed a questionnaire on beliefs, knowledge and attitudes towards AIDS. It was found that there is a high level of knowledge about the nature of the virus (HIV) and its modes of transmission among the students. The major reason for taking such surveys in Africa is the high prevalence of the disease in many countries of Africa and the rapid spread of HIV in that continent.
