- Abstract
The authors discuss the use of transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) guided approach for targeted prophylaxis of prostate biopsy and its associated risk of infectious complications. Topics include the comparison of number-needed-to-treat (NNT) and prostate biopsy with fluoroquinolone-based prophylaxis approaches, the benefits and advantages of targeted prophylaxis on reducing the antimicrobial resistance, and the strategies for the reduction of infective complications due to the prostate biopsy.
