- Abstract
Since recurrent UTI is a potential risk factor for future renal involvement, the primary aim is to prevent the development of UTI until spontaneous reflux resolution, especially in low-grade reflux. Dear Editor, We read with great interest the article by Mina-Riascos et al. [[1]] about evaluating the effectiveness and safety of endoscopic management compared to ureterovesical reimplantation in pediatric patients with high-grade vesicoureteral reflux in terms of urinary tract infection (UTI). The long-term follow-up outcomes based on our recent study showed that the likelihood of postoperative febrile UTI episodes were 3.257 times greater with early filling phase reflux ( I p i = 0.034), 3.056 times greater with bladder-bowel dysfunction (BBD) ( I p i = 0.040), and 2.750 times greater with UDR > 0.22 ( I p i = 0.001), even after successful endoscopic management for reflux resolution.
