- Authors
Kurdi, Mária
- Abstract
The article presents an essay on the development of arts, modernist literature, and quality journalism in Hungary during the time of Irish dramatist, poet, and writer John Millington Synge. In addition, it presents a brief comparison of the two published Hungarian translations of Synge's "The Playboy" which offered against the background of the 2004 Hungarian revival of the drama. A discussion of the shifting of various interpretations on page and stage in the context of political and sociocultural changes is presented. The author included some pieces of critical response and theater productions to give more space and emphasis.
