- Title
The Beauty of the Cross in Augustine's Aesthetics.
- Authors
LYLE JEFFREY, DAVID
- Abstract
An essay is presented on the beauty of cross in the context of aesthetics by Saint Augustine of Hippo. It notes two extrinsic contexts which have been intervened to obscure the pertinence for his questions on the nature of corporeal beauty and its seductive allure. The author claims that these contexts draw heavily upon the language of Neoplatonism while the other one is the paradigmatic post-Kantian disposition in aesthetics, that is to reject metaphysics altogether.
