- Title
Health Care Reform Requires Accountable Care Systems.
- Authors
Shortell, Stephen M.; Casalino, Lawrence P.
- Abstract
The authors offer commentary concerning health care reforms through the implementation of an accountable care system (ACS). It is argued that this type of system would improve the quality of health care and control health care costs through an organized process that would hold an organization accountable for the results. It is stressed that an ACS must consist of many accountable care organizations covering a continuum of health care. The advantages of multi-specialty group practice are weighed.
