- Abstract
The article presents research on the frequency of human papillomavirus (HVP) in U.S. women. The data are intended as a baseline measure against which the effectiveness of an HVP vaccine can be compared once it is in widespread use. The research data showed that HVP prevalence among American women was greater than previous estimates and highest among women in the 20-24 age group. The study provided the first national estimate of HPV prevalence, found to be 26.8%, among females in the U.S. aged 14 to 59 years.
