- Title
BANNING EPHEDRA: GOOD CALL, POOR VISION.
- Authors
Gordon, James S.
- Abstract
The article focuses on issues related to the ban on dietary supplement ephedra by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is the deliberate misunderstanding of the traditional use of herbs and their irresponsible exploitation for economic gain which have compelled the FDA to act. Banning ephedra does not ensure either greater public responsibility or more thoughtful professional and public use of herbal supplements. The White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine policy recommended that all health professionals be educated in the traditional systems of healing their patients.
