- Abstract
The article shows that estrogen receptor (ER) α36 mediates a bone-sparing effect of 17β-estrodiol in postmenopausal women. The study reveals that the mitogenic, anti-apoptotic, anti-osteogenic effects and pro-apoptotic effects in osteoblasts and osteoclasts with high levels of ER-α36 expression are induced by the postmenopausal level of estradiol. Findings show the positive association ER-α36 expression in bone with bone mineral density, and the negative association of ER-α36 expression with bone biochemical markers.
