- Abstract
The article discusses the result of a study which examined the possible association between osteomyelitis (OM) and the (-1607 1G/2G) and (-77 A/G) polymorphisms in the matrix metalloproteases 1 (MMP1) and MMP13 gene promoters. It was found that MMP13 (-77 A/G) polymorphism is not associated with OM. The study also reveals that the MMP1 (-1607 1G/2G) may contribute to the pathogenesis of OM which could be due to increased expression of MMP1 by osteoblasts.
