- Abstract
The article presents a medical research study which examined the effects of antiresorptive treatment with bisphosphonate risedronate on the auditory ossicles and hearing of mice lacking osteoprotegerin. Osteoclasts resorb auditory ossicles in mice lacking osteoprotegerin. The mice are a model for juvenile Paget's disease. Hearing in the mice was significantly improved with treatment. Bisphosphonates may prevent hearing loss in conditions involving excessive resorption of the auditory ossicles.
