- Abstract
Background The association of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis is a rare but well-documented occurrence in malignancies, especially in lymphoproliferative tumors such as lymphomas. Learning points for clinicians The Warburg effect is a metabolic anomaly that produces lactic acidosis due to anaerobic glycolysis in the cytosol of malignant cells, mainly lymphomas and leukemias. The patient died due to refractory hypoglycemia and increasing lactic acidosis before starting chemotherapy.
