- Abstract
The article focuses on assessing the prevalence of silicosis among metal/nonmetal (MNM) miners in the Western U.S. It is reported that silicosis is caused by exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and is a preventable lung disease. It is further reported that despite existing public health reporting systems for silicosis in some U.S. states, data for MNM miners are limited due to a lack of industry-wide medical surveillance.
