- Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the suitable therapeutic dose of Avena sativa seeds crude extract to study its beneficial effect on fertility of female rats against antifertility effect of Chlorambucil. Frst group (G1) was left without any treatment as negative control group. Second group (G2) was treated with Chlorambucil 0.62mg/kg, the third group (G3) was treated with Chlorambucil 0.62mg/ml and Avena sativa crude extract 226mg/kg B.W, and the fourth group (G4) was treated withAvena sativa crude extract 226mg/kg B.W only. The results of ovarian and uterine weight ratio in G3 showed significant reduction as compared with G1and G4. The result of FSH, LH, estrogen and progesterone levels in G3 was preserved to normal levels. Glutathione peroxides (GPX) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in G3 and G4 group revealed a significant increase in comparison with G2.The G4 group displayed an important elevation in the number of embryos and fertility index % among G1and another treated groups. The diameter of ovary, diameter of endometrial glands, thickness of endometrium, thickness of myometrium, number of primary follicles and number of secondary follicles in G3 and G4 revealed significant elevation as compared with G2. Uterus section in G3 showed mild vaculation in the epithelia lining the uterine glands. Ovaries sections in G3 show edaggregation of mononuclear cells in the stroma with beginning regeneration of follicles. This study concluded that Avena sativa seed crude extract has protective role on fertility and reproductive organs of female laboratory rats against the toxic effect of Chlorambucil.
