- Abstract
Mexico a decade ago ranked eighteenth in the production of edible mushrooms worldwide. In our country, the species of P. pulmonius and P. ostreatus are mainly cultivated from introduced commercial strains. Its cultivation represents a socioeconomic importance that favors many families, it is considered a food of high nutritional value. Their natural production is easy and inexpensive as they grow on a wide variety of lignocellulosic substrates. Artificially its production is simple to cultivate, since by means of a formulated substrate the natural substrate where the species grows is replaced. However the costs of the culture media for the production of mycelium are relatively high. Therefore, the objective of this research focused on evaluating the efficiency of two culture media made from plants (Sechium edule and Glycine max) used as alternative means for obtaining Pleurotus pulmonary mycelium. As a result, it was obtained that the chayote medium complies with the nutritional requirements of Pleurotus, so it reached an optimal development, in contrast to the control.
