- Abstract
The article presents a study which investigates the role of oscillating migration in stimulating serious interrelated epidemics such as silicosis, tuberculosis, and HIV infection in gold mining industry in South Africa. It examines the economic, historical, political, and social perspectives of the diseases to justify the implications of the oscillation. Results show that the effect of HIV infection, tuberculosis, and silicosis expands beyond individual miners to their families and communities.
