- Abstract
The article comments on two new studies focusing on the use of Cas9 gene to engineer a gene drive in malaria-bearing mosquitoes published in 2016, which present a new hope for malaria disease control in Africa. Topics include in one study researchers installed two synthetic genes for malaria resistance in the DNA of Anopheles stephensi mosquito and in another study Cas9 was used to disrupt three genes needed for female fertility in Anopheles gambiae mosquito.
