- Title
Disease to Dirt: The Biology of Microbial Amyloids.
- Authors
Hufnagel, David A.; Tükel, Çagla; Chapman, Matthew R.
- Abstract
The article deals with questions involving the various roles of bacterial amyloids in host, polymicrobial and environmental interactions. It notes that amyloid production in biofilms provides structure for floating biofilms in Bacillus (B.) subtilis and Escherichia (E.) coli and for shear and mactrix-degrading enzyme-resistant biofilms in Staphylococcus (S.) aureus. The role of Curli, functional bacterial amyloid, in host-bacteria interactions is discussed.
