- Abstract
Paris, which was already an important seat of learning in Latin Europe and which remained so until the beginning of the twelfth century, fully established itself around the middle of the century. However, unlike other great European universities, it has no available bibliographic repertory or directory. This is due to a lack of sources in the form of registers of professors and students: the limited amount of material available is scattered among Nationes, faculties and colleges. Thanks to IT support, it is today possible to overcome the limitations of printed material, and design a tool that can be constantly updated through the integration of external sources, largely ecclesiastical. Given the enormity of the subjects in question (history of science and culture, and social, political, economic and regional history), collective expertise is required to develop a biographical-bibliographical database. Writing must therefore be simple in order to enable the IT system to transform human language into XML and structure the data.
