- Abstract
An essay is presented on urban pleasure and children in Victorian England, examining nineteenth century depictions of children and subterranean spaces. Several books are considered, including the Doctor Dolittle series by Hugh Lofting. The author also examines the modernist theory of intellectual Walter Benjamin, examining his study of nineteenth century urban culture called the Arcades Project.
