- Abstract
Butyrolactone 1 was isolated from the EtOAc fraction of the EtOH extract of the aerial part of Geranium charlesii (Aitch. & Hemsl.) Vved. The configurations of all chiral centers of 1 were established by an X-ray crystal structure analysis. The structure of 1 was (3S,4R,5S,6R,7S)-3-p-hydroxyphenyl-5,6,7-trihydroxyoxolan-1,4-olide or the trivial name sawaranin. The dynamics of sawaranin conformers were studied as a function of time in DMSO-d6 solution using NMR spectroscopy and quantum-chemical calculations.
