- Abstract
Objective To investigate the influence of modified central wedge labiaplasty on postoperative wound healing and scar contracture. Methods From January to December 2019, 107 patients with labia minora hypertrophy were randomly divided into two groups. Fifty-six patients in group A underwent conventional wedge resection and 51 patients in group B underwent modified central wedge labiaplasty. In group B, by changing the difference in cutting edge height of skin surface and mucosal surface of the labia minora, non-parallel closure lines were formed. The characteristics of patients were recorded before operation. Patient satisfaction and complications were evaluated through the follow-up after operation. The clinical outcomes of both groups were compared. Results There was no significant difference in age, labia minora width and duration of operation between both groups (P> 0.05). The satisfaction rate was 91.1% in group A. Five patients were not satisfied with the clinical outcomes, including 3 cases of poor wound healing, 1 case of bilateral asymmetry and 1 case of slight scar contracture. The satisfaction rate was 98% in group B. One patient was not satisfied with the clinical outcomes because of postoperative edema. There was significant difference in postoperative VAS satisfaction score (t=0.21, P=0.03). The difference was statistically significant. Conclusion This study preliminarily confirmed that modified central wedge labiaplasty could effectively improve wound healing, reduce scar contracture and increase patient satisfaction.
