- Abstract
A study published in Clinical & Experimental Allergy examined adherence to adrenaline autoinjector (AAI) prescriptions among patients with severe food allergies. The study found that 64% of patients with peanut or hazelnut allergies adhered to their AAI prescriptions. Adherence was highest among females and young children, but significantly lower among adolescents. The study highlights the importance of proper adherence to AAI prescriptions for individuals at risk of food-induced anaphylaxis. Factors such as affordability, lack of disease knowledge, fear of side effects, and overreliance on other medications can impact adherence. Healthcare professionals can improve adherence through patient education and interventions.
