- Title
The link between affective and functional gastrointestinal disorders: are we solving the psychobiological puzzle?
- Authors
VAN OUDENHOVE, L.
- Abstract
The author offers his views on the link between affective disorders and functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGID). Some researchers suggest that FGID should be seen as affective disorders in their own right, but the author argues that it is an extreme position that is unlikely to be correct because of the massive difference in phenomenological presentation between both groups of patients. It is stated that the serotonin system is one of the most obvious candidates for a neurobiological link and FGID.
