- Title
Radiation and Thyroid Cancer: What More Can be Learned?
- Authors
Boice, John D.
- Abstract
The author presents information on the contribution of excessive exposure to ionizing radiation to the acquisition of thyroid cancer. Several epidemiologic studies related to radiation-induced thyroid cancers include radiotherapy studies of newborn infants with enlarged thymus glands, ringworm of the scalp, tonsils and women with cervical cancer. It is revealed that age makes the poison, that relative risk is high but decreases with time and that women are more vulnerable to thyroid cancer.
