- Abstract
This article presents information on Java Business Integration, a Java Specification Request 208 standard targeting the business integration space. Like other Java Specification Requests in the Java Community Process, Java Business Integration obviously has to work with the Java 2 platform--in this case, both the standard and enterprise editions. It also wisely goes beyond the Java-centric focus in most Java Specification Requests and aims to accommodate implementation alternatives outside the pure Java space. The approach underlying Java Business Integration is a bit unusual compared to other Java Specification Requests in that it uses Web services at its core. Rather than focusing on how to build Web services using Java, it promotes an architecture that is strongly based on Web services' principles and approaches. Because the Java Business Integration environment deals with pluggable components, it must also deal with lifecycle and deployment issues. To handle these issues, the Java Business Integration environment makes use of Java Management Extensions. Java Business Integration supports the principles of service-oriented architecture in part, by being a service-oriented architecture itself.
