- Abstract
Differentiating between cortical cerebellar atrophy (CCA) and cerebellar subtype of multiple-system atrophy (MSA-C) can be difficult in the early stages of the disease. We evaluated the diagnostic value of brain perfusion SPECT in the patients with CCA and MSA-C. We performed the easy Z-score imaging system (eZIS), allowing computerassociated statistical analysis of brain perfusion SPECT images, for 7 patients with CCA, 5 patients with MSA-C, and 10 control subjects. In addition, the region cerebral blood flow (rCBF) was quantified by using a fully automated reginal CBF quantification program named 3DSRT. Although the decreased rCBF of cerebellum was observed in both patients, the rCBF of pons significantly decreased in MSA-C patients than CCA patients. We suggest that the analysis of rCBF in cerebellum and pons is useful to differentiate CCA from MSA-C.
