- Title
LIFE AFTER DEATH AS PRESENTED IN HEAVEN AND HELL BY EMANUEL SWEDENBORG.
- Authors
Smith, Lawson M.
- Abstract
This paper consists of highlights from the book Heaven and its Wonders, and Hell, from things heard and seen, written by Emanuel Swedenborg, and published anonymously in London in 1758. According to Swedenborg, we know of life after death originally only by revelation from God. He states that the contents of Heaven and Hell were revealed by the Lord so that humankind would not remain in ignorance and doubt about life after death. The book is in three sections: the first two thirds is about heaven; the second section (about one fifth) is about an intermediate realm, ‘the world of spirits’; and the last tenth of the book is on hell. Swedenborg numbered his paragraphs. All the citations in this paper are to his paragraph numbers.
