- Abstract
Regulatory Agencies have laid out detailed guidelines, including an Annual Risk Acknowledgment Form (ARAF) to be filled by the physician and the patient on Valproate prescription. Valproate prescription among reproductive age women with bipolar disorders - Are regulatory methods the only solution? The use of valproate in pregnancy is associated with a high risk of major congenital malformations (10.93%)[1] and lower IQ scores in children.[2] Treatment guidelines for bipolar disorder (BD) recommend avoiding valproate prescription in reproductive- age women (Bipolar Disorder Treatment Guidelines: A 2018 Update, Flavio Guzman).
