- Abstract
The article describes Koten and Klassik, the basic patterns of Japanese classicism in architecture. It is noted that Koten implies a process of creation which an eminent predecessor has maintained to achieve a great work. On the other hand, Klassik has been used as a label to distinguish the Western classical styles from the Japanese. The author describes his work, Studio Building No. 10, an extension to the existing campus of the Musashino Art Institute in Tokyo, Japan, which illustrates the two aspects of classicism.
