- Abstract
Plants have homologues of the majority of the vertebrate and yeast genes that encode both the structural and the regulatory proteins of the secretory pathway. However, it is clear that plant cells are different in the organization and operation of the components of the pathway, such as highly motile Golgi stacks, the necessity to sort proteins into different vacuoles and the need to organize a precisely orientated apparatus for cell division. The field of plant endomembrane biology is growing rapidly in many directions. People are no longer discussing just the discovery of molecular regulators and the characterization of component structures. In recent studies of the secretory pathways, authors investigate molecular interactions and their influence on transport pathways.
