The article focuses on the assessment of facial sensation, and the role of the trigeminal nerve (CN V) in sensory perception. Topics include the division and functions of CN V; the impact of lesions on facial sensation and motor functions; the corneal reflex and trigeminal neuralgia; and explains how CN V processes facial sensations and motor functions, details the effects of nerve damage and describes the protective corneal reflex and the condition of trigeminal neuralgia.
