- Abstract
In the book "Homo destructor" by Werner Batzing, the question is raised whether humans are ruthlessly destroying the Earth and themselves. The author criticizes modernity and puts forth the thesis that since the transition to a modern service society, humans have become a "Homo destructor". The text deals with global environmental history and emphasizes the necessity of limiting living space. It argues that abstractions through philosophy, mathematics, and the monetary system form the basis for the industrial revolution and the transformation of the environmental reference. The transition to service societies leads to further boundarylessness.
