- Title
The 'Banking' System of Teaching: Frowns and No Flowers.
- Authors
Acio, Jennifer Francesa
- Abstract
The author comments on the so-called banking system of teaching in schools in Uganda, from the perspective of a teacher. She recalls a 7-4-2 education system in the country. She considers a kind of pedagogy, that presents learning as an agonizing experience, as the handiwork of a commercialized education system that puts emphasis on grades at the expense of the holistic development of learners. She proposes that learners should be allowed by teachers to take ownership of their own learning, for teachers to make a whole world of difference.
